A Plea for Help! – by Club Member and occasional Events Secretary Lee Smith
Hello everyone,
Many members will know me and my brother Nigel, as
we’ve been travelling down to race with NMCC for a good few years now. We’ve
made several very good friends through the club, and I like to think we’re
regarded as a pretty friendly family who will do anything to help anyone. We
therefore hope people will be able to help us with this request.
Nigel was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in November 2007, and he's
currently being treated at Weston Park Cancer Hospital in Sheffield. As a
family we’re trying to raise £5,000 for the hospital's Cancer Appeal, and
we’re doing a series of challenges and events over the next 12 months or so.
So yes you've guessed it – we’re after sponsorship money if possible
please!!
The first event we’re doing will see me (Lee)
running the White Peak Marathon in May – this is a 100% off-road race ran in
the heights of the Peak District, so not an easy challenge to undertake!
The website is here
All donations can be made online, are secure and sent electronically to The
Weston Park Hospital Cancer Appeal (it works much like PayPal does). If you
are a UK taxpayer, they can automatically reclaim 28% Gift Aid on your
behalf too, so your donation is worth even more.
So any help (no matter how small) will be GREATLY received, and would mean
an awful lot to me, my family and obviously most importantly my brother. He
was still racing in October (less than 4 months ago) and he even won the
club’s Expert Hare and Hounds Championship last year - it just shows you how
quickly all our lives have been turned upside-down by this, and how it
really can happen to any of us.
Thank you for reading this, thanks for any help you can offer and we look
forward to seeing many of our friends at an event in the near future.
Many thanks
Lee
